About Organelle

Organelle is a small, independent design studio based in Vancouver, BC. We reshape the role of the designer as it relates to the client, community and materials, by interlacing architecture, interior and industrial design practices. Our designs re-purpose off-the-shelf, and found objects in innovative ways. Our flexibility allows the project needs and materials to inform designs that are both cost and environmentally effective. Within this framework, every outcome, from the subtle to the fantastic, is inherently unique.

Our work starts with a simple premise: waste is the most abundant local resource our cities have to offer. Often free or inexpensive, waste is a seemingly endless supply, always providing new and exciting designpossibilities. As such, we approach our work from two angles. We are both searching for found objects to suit specific design program, and continuously harvesting available waste materials to derive concepts from. This recursive, non-linear process is the basis of our flexible methodology and allows us to adapt to material flows and project requirements. Neither mass production nor one-off custom design, our work falls somewhere in between.
