To Practice Bricolage:
Tapping a Culture of Consumption for Creative Producion
Much like an open-door civic center this project seeks to create a community rooted space where one can build and make. Prototypical housing
units will provide the ‘bread and butter’ of the project, a community workshop and resource recovery depot will make up the ‘backbone,’ and design
studios will help guide and organize. This work/dwelling environment becomes a place of production and reuse rather than consumption. Unfinished
residential and work spaces will be provided to allow for individual expression and economy (these will be flexible yet specifically designed for
self-build). Dwellers and designers will be encouraged to interface with each other, allowing a social exchange as well as a new outlook on design
practice. Local materials will be gathered from community, used by the community and designed for the community at large.
